THE WEEK OF GLOBAL INTERFAITH DIALOGUE
SPONSORED BY GLOBAL FAMILY FOR LOVE AND PEACE
SEPTEMBER 10-16 2006
The fourth annual Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue will take place around the world from September 10-16. On one day during this week individuals and organizations are encouraged to share the values common to all religions. The dialogues, building a critical mass of positive energy and unity, facilitate a greater understanding of our interconnectedness and of our responsibility for each other. In previous years the Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue had been celebrated in Iran, India, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, Mozambique, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Australia, Taiwan, Finland, the Philippines, the UK, at the United Nations, and in many locations in the United States.
The Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue is being held to support of the observance of the United Nations International Day of Peace. The United Nations General Assembly has declared that the International Day of Peace be observed on September 21st as “… a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities.” The Week of Interfaith Dialogue creates, in the words of Dharma Master Hsin Tao, the founder of Global Family for Love and Peace and the featured presenter at the dialogue held at the United Nations, “unity and friendship as the basis for future cooperation.”
In accordance with the philosophy of respect for all faiths, acceptance of all cultures, and love for all life, GFLP is dedicated to building a harmonious world through promoting spiritual education, organizing and directing activities for young people in the field of social service, and sponsoring interfaith dialogues. GFLP, as a non-profit tax exempt organization, fosters these values through its commitment to:
• nonviolence and respect for all life;
• a just economic order;
• acceptance and a life of truthfulness; and
• equal rights and partnership between men and women
GFLP was honored to be one of the primary sponsors of the 55th Annual DPI/NGO Conference held at United Nations headquarters in New York City and the Buddhist-Muslim Dialogue Series that concluded with the Conference on Global Ethics and Good Governance held in May, 2003 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. GFLP also is a participant in the Vigil for International Peace to be held in New York City’s Central Park on September 17th.
